About the Arden Angels

Choir Style

What makes the choir so unique is their varied repertoire, ranging from pop, gospel and soul to classical, folk and opera. The girls’ performances are renowned for their vivacity, sparkle and excitement.

Choir Accolades:

In competitions they are praised for their mature tone, fine articulation, sincere delivery, performance, and perfect tuning - the list goes on!

They have made regular appearances on BBC Radio and taken part in various TV shows for ITV, BBC and Sky. They won Choir of the Day at their heat for the BBC Choir of the Year competition, and are regularly invited to take part in other TV shows and events.

A trip to Paris saw them sing in Notre Dame Cathedral and on the main stage at Disneyland Paris. They have worked with and supported the London Community Gospel Choir on more than one occasion.

Charity Concerts

The girls also regularly support charitable institutions, and have held concerts in aid of Cancer Research, Pendleside Hospice, Macmillan Nurses, Barnardos and the RNLI to name but a few.

Andrea Goffee

Musical Director - Arden Angels

Andrea Goffee Musical Director Arden Youth Choir. Andrea qualified as a teacher from Avery Hill College London and started her career in primary education in Lancashire. She moved to London where she taught in both primary and secondary schools and then, before finally settling back in Lancashire, worked at the South Warwickshire Further Education College. She studied singing and performance at the Manchester School of Music and worked for the Lancashire Music Service promoting singing and directing choirs across a wide area (one choir winning the national Choir of Achievement Award). She is passionate about singing and continues to study vocal technique for different genres of music. Andrea is a member of the South Pennine Singers and performs as a soloist on a regular basis. She took on the role of Musical Director with the Arden Youth Choir in January 2013.

Janet Ismail


Janet Ismail began her musical studies with organist Charles Myers in Clitheroe and went on to study piano and organ at trinity College of Music, London. After graduating she was appointed Organist and Musical director at a large Baptist Church in London and taught music for several years. She returned to live in Clitheroe in 1997 with her husband and young family, and has become increasingly active in the local musical scene. She teaches piano and her accompanying skills are much in demand by singers and instrumentalists.


Peter Elmer


Peter was born in Rawtenstall in 1952. He began piano lessons at the age of seven and was educated at Haslingden Secondary Modern School and Accrington Boys Grammar School. While at schools he was a member of both Lancashire County Youth Orchestra and Lancashire Youth Choir. After 6th Form, he went on to study at Huddersfield University, gaining a degree in music. He began teaching in Kirkby, Mersyside, where he was assistant Music director for Knowsley Youth Orchestra in 1974/75. In 1975/76 he worked as a pianist for the Mecca Ballroom Organisation. Since 1976 he has lived in Pendle, teaching many hundreds of young people to play musical instruments. He is married to Janet and has two daughters who have both graduated with music degrees. He has just finished teaching at St.Christophers C of E High School Orchestra for the past 12 years.
